FUTURE APPLICATION OF SPB TECHNOLOGY

The application of SPB (Self-supporting Prismatic shape IMO Type B tank system) technology to the storage and transportation of LNG is a new concept being considered because of its advantageous features, such as the compact hull, flat and wider upper deck, strong tanks, efficient insulation and flexibility in design. Introduction of the technology will achieve better economy of transportation by allowing larger carriers and more efficient propulsion plants, reduce the initial costs for production of LNG, and develop new gas fields by FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading unit). The development of carriers for LH2, expected to be a future energy source, is also an area of application.
