THE INTELLIGENT ENGINE UNDER DEVELOPMENT
A long-term R & D project, referred to as "The Intelligent Engine Concept", is a response to a prevailing market demand for more reliable engines. The aim is to develop systems and components necessary for a future engine generation which is extremely reliable and, at the same time, has a high degree of flexibility in terms of operating modes. This article describes the subsystems of the engine concept: cylinder condition monitoring system, load limiter system, fuel injection system, exhaust valve system, cylinder lubrication system and the turbocharging control system.
