AUSTAL 40M GAS TURBINE CATAMARANS ENTER SERVICE
Three Austal 40m catamarans powered by gas turbines have arrived in Hong Kong. All three have entered service with established operators on routes between Hong Kong and upstream cities on the western side of the Pearl River delta. The vessels are powered by TF40 gas turbines which are about one-tenth of the weight of a comparable diesel and their much smaller dimensions mean that they require considerably less engine room space. Principal particulars of the vessels are listed and general arrangement drawings of the SHUN JING are given.
