RECENT ADVANCES IN THE MODELLING OF PILED FOUNDATION GROUPS FOR THE FATIGUE ANALYSIS OF OFFSHORE STRUCTURES
With the move towards lighter, more slender designs of offshore structures the importance of correctly modelling all critical elements of the structure for fatigue analysis has been recognised. Advancements in computing capabilities have enabled an examination of the behaviour of differently modelled piled foundation groups to be carried out. The results of this study have shown that current mathematical modelling techniques are overly simplistic, resulting in limited compatibility, and may possibly be unconservative for fatigue analysis. A superior mathematical model has been developed which demonstrates much improved compatibility over the critical load conditions for fatigue analysis.
