CAVITATION WITHIN AN IMPINGING LIQUID DROPLET

The occurrence of a low pressure region in cavitation is often followed by a high pressure such as is found in many hydrodynamic and acoustic applications. This high pressure causes the collapse of the cavities and a resultant damage on solid surfaces. The study concerns the cavitation which may develop during impact of a liquid droplet upon a solid surface. It involves the appearance of a low pressure region followed very rapidly by the imposition of a much higher pressure.
