OREDA: A SOFTWARE TOOL AND DATABASE FOR OFFSHORE SYSTEMS RELIABILITY
The reliability of offshore equipment has a major impact on platform safety, production availability and maintenance costs. This has caused the authorities and the oil companies to focus on ways to enhance the equipment reliability. To accomplish this objective, systematic collection and analysis of experience data is necessary and for some equipment mandatory by regulation. The OREDA (Offshore Reliability Data) project which has been underway for more than 10 years, has established an industry standard for establishing offshore equipment reliability data banks. Through this project, the participating companies have established the most valuable source of information on the performance of various types of equipment, a well documented guideline on how to collect experience data, and a generalized software tool to facilitate the data collection and the data analysis. This paper addresses the generalized software tool and gives some examples of its application.
