ECONOMIC BENEFITS OF THE PORT OF DETROIT

Presents an outline of the methodologies used, assumptions made in data gathering and analysis and major conclusions reached. Economic benefits of the port to the City of Detroit, Wayne County, and State of Michigan for a base year and for two future years are estimated. The futuristic orientation is used as a policy analysis tool to evaluate anticipated benefits under given assumptions as to the nature and extent of government involvement in future port development. In this respect, the study provides a unique departure from traditional economic benefit studies undertaken for other ports in the United States and elsewhere. Three appendixes are included (1) An overview of Detroits economy (2) Program outputs and (3) a description of economic activity zones.
