RAILWAY RELOCATION IN CANADA

Railways were instrumental in the development of many North American communities. The present place they now occupy in the centre of our cities no longer corresponds to their importance. Thus, historical, technological and socio-economic factors are exerting pressures for the removal of railways in urban centres. A study of past railway relocation reveals certain patterns as well as cause-and-effect relationships which should be carefully examined when contemplating future railway relocation.
