ORDERS FOR LASER-ASSISTED HELICOPTER DECK LANDING SYSTEM
Sea trials have been successfully completed on a new free deck helicopter landing system ASIST (aircraft ship integrated secure and transverse). ASIST is particularly attractive for smaller vessels. By using advanced electro-optical technology it allows free-deck landing without the need for a steel cable to stabilise the ships helicopter during final descent, nor a landing signal's officer to indicate positional corrections. Precise automated visual cues are available to guide the pilot and allows unassisted landing in extreme weather conditions.
