INGALLS-BUILT CORVETTE FOR ISRAEL NAMED

EILAT, the first of three 1200t Sa'ar V-class corvettes to be built by Ingalls Shipbuilding for the Israeli Navy, was launched in February 1993. Subdivided by eleven transverse bulkheads and featuring six fire zones, the design follows U.S. Navy criteria and German Navy guidelines. Particular attention has been paid to the minimising of radar, acoustic and IR signatures. Principal particulars of the Sa'ar V class are given.
