GLASS REINFORCEMENT AND OPTIMUM POLYESTER LAMINATES

Laminates optimisation based on the laminate maximum bending capability and mass ratio is very important for the reduction of hull mass and hull construction expenses. The direct search method was employed for the dimensioning and optimisation of laminates with even number and symmetric layers arrangement. As a design variable, a resin-glass reinforcement mass ratio in the laminate layer was chosen. The optimisation for the laminates reinforced with mat and/or roving was performed. Analysing their properties, the role of glass reinforcement in laminate optimisation processes and the possibility of choosing the optimum laminate for a given bending moment are defined.
