FAST FERRIES SAFETY RULES DEBATE

A new safety code for fast ferries is being devised by the IMO. The new code is designed to bring the rules into line with recent design and technical developments in fast ferries already in operation. However, some builders and operators have expressed concern as to whether the proposed new code will really improve the safety of modern fast ferries or whether it may merely act to stifle further innovation. This article discusses the merits of the new code.
