PILOT MK 2 - A VERSATILE LPI RADAR

Low Probability of Intercept (LPI) is gradually becoming an important tactical requirement from many users of radar. The reason for this is twofold: the increased capability of Electronic Support Measures (ESM) equipment, used to detect and locate a source of radiation and the threat from Anti-Radiation Missiles (ARM). PILOT (Philips Indetectable Low-Output Transceiver) was developed as a stand-alone system and also suitable as an add-on to existing navigation radars. A new version, the PILOT Mk 2, has recently been developed. This article compares its enhanced performance to the original version, especially in the areas of flexibility in operation, multiple existing displays, and higher range-resolution.
