THE ANZAC FRIGATE
The ANZAC Ship Project is a joint Australia/New Zealand undertaking that will deliver 10 frigates for the two navies between 1995 and 2005. Eight of the ships are for the Royal Australian Navy and two (the second and fourth) for the Royal New Zealand Navy. The acquisition strategy for the ships to include the use of an existing design with only the essential changes necessary to meet the requirements of each navy. The Blohm und Voss Meko 200 design was selected. The ANZAC Ships will be about 3500 tonnes full load displacement and 114m in length, with a complement of 163.
