NORASIA'S HATCHLESS BOXBOATS FEATURE INNOVATIVE RAIN SHELTERS
Swiss-based Norasia Line, has recently ordered four open-hatch containerships from German shipbuilder, Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft at Kiel. The four 2,780 teu capacity vessels will be delivered between the end of 1993 and September 1994. The first vessel will be named, NORASIA KIEL and the second, NORASIA FRIBOURG. The remaining two vessels are as yet, unnamed. Norasia has taken the open-hatch design a step further and these vessels will also feature an innovative cargo protection facility dubbed a "rain shelter". The rain shelters will provide protection for holds three to seven onboard the seven hold vessels - the foreward most cargo spaces are afforded pontoon-type covers to allow for the carriage of dangerous goods. A profile drawing and principal particulars of the vessels are given.
