CYCLOCONVERTER DRIVES FORE SHIP PROPULSION
The Royal Navy are considering, amongst other options using electrical propulsion, employing variable frequency cycloconverters on the next generation of anti-submarine warfare frigates. The ongoing work in the Engineering Department of Aberdeen University is addressing some of the challenges advanced by electrical propulsion. This paper concentrates on the electrical characteristics of cycloconverter drive systems.
