A RULE-BASED NARAI-DESIGN SYSTEM FOR CIM FOR SHIPBUILDING

A prototype structural design system is being developed by the Ship and Ocean Foundation in Japan. This paper discusses and expert system which is one of the functions of the structural design system. The expert system incorporates the narai design method. The expert system was applied to the transverse sections in the hold of an oil tanker. The result indicated that the system is able to generate the design information necessary for production planning in the early stages of CIM in shipbuilding.
