COLORADO TRUCK SIZE AND WEIGHT STUDY

Information is presented on weights, types, axle spacings, and loadings of commercial vehicles operating on highways in Colorado. Size and weight data were collected at 12 stations: 6 on interstate highways, 5 on primary highways, and 1 on secondary highway. Trend graphs are presented, and maps are used to show station locations. AASHO recommended truck loads and currently applicable weight laws are also presented. The average total weight of all vehicles weighed was 18,300 pounds, and the average of loaded trucks was 21,300 pounds. Figures indicating the average carried load are discussed. The data obtained in the Annual Colorado Truck Size and Weight Studies are the bases for the design factors (for 18 kip equivalent daily load applicatons) used in flexible pavement design.
