ORTHOGONAL DIGITAL SIMULATION OF PROBABILISTIC PROPERTIES OF FATIGUE LIFE FOR OFFSHORE STRUCTURES
Fatigue reliability of offshore structures is dependent on the probabilistic properties of its fatigue life distribution, influenced by many factors. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the distribution properties of the fatigue life of offshore structures under various conditions, including fatigue loading, initial flaw size and its probabilistic property, crack growth behaviour and type of crack. The paper presents a simple procedure to study fatigue life distribution and its parameters by combining the digital simulation method with the orthogonal design approach. Using this method, the types and parameters of fatigue life distribution for offshore structural components in various cases are evaluated and sensitivity analysis parameters are also made. A fatigue strength design method of a reliability principle is proposed based on this procedure, by which the probabilistic fatigue design of offshore structures would become as simple to evaluate as a deterministic fatigue design method.
