NEDLLOYD'S 'ULTIMATE CONTAINER CARRIER' IS LARGEST OPEN-HATCH SHIP
NEDLLOYD ASIA is a state of the art containership without hatch covers, known variously as the Time Saver or Ultimate Container Carrier. The whole concept is based on the requirement to move containers on and off the ship in the shortest possible time, thereby minimising time spent in port. The cell guide structure is extended out of the hold to protrude above deck. This eliminates lashing altogether. Containers are still stacked a maximum of four high above the deck but now they are securely held in a strong guide structure, extending over some 30 m from top to bottom of the ship. Principal particulars are: propulsion DU-Sulzer 8RTA84C length overall 266.00 m length between perpendiculars 253.00 m breadth moulded 32.24 m depth 23.25 m draught 12.50 m tonnage, gross register 48508 tonnage, net 19254 t tonnage, deadweight 46900 t speed, at 11m draught 21.5 knots container capacity 3568 TEU crew 17
