ASSEMBLY AND TESTING OF THE MARK 1 SHIPBOARD SEPARATOR SYSTEM
Assembly and testing of a prototype oil-water-solids separating system is described. The system is designed to process ships' bilge water at a rate of 50 gpm and provide water effluent containing less than 15 ppm of oil. The system is composed of two units: (1) a skid mounted separator module approximately 5'x3'x3', and (2) a control console approximately 5'x3'2'. Results of system testing indicates that the system is capable of continuously processing 50 gpm of bilge water containing concentrations up to 20% No. 2 fuel oil and discharging water effluent with less than 7 ppm oil. Higher inlet oil concentrations are handled satisfactorily by the automatic recirculation feature of the system.
