PROBABILISTIC MODELS FOR CALCULATION OF LOAD SPECTRA FOR HIGHWAY BRIDGES
Two numerical models are described by which load spectra for highway sections and loadeffect spectra for highway bridges may be calculated. Primarily intended for use in connection with fatigue of highway bridges, these models use input variables of both deterministic and non- deterministic, stochastic nature which are chosen so that their values can be easily estimated. Output from the load spectrum model is used as input to the load effect spectrum model. The distribution output of stochastic variables is mostly in the form of printed or line printer plotted spectra, where a spectrum expresses probabilities for a variable to be greater than or equal to specific values. Both linear and logarithmic spectra are plotted. Load spectra and loadeffect spectra are calculated and compared to a few measured spectra. An analytical loadeffect spectrum analysis was also performed for uniformly distributed axle weights and short triangular influence lines taking into consideration influence lines. A mobile vehicle weighting station is described as well as planned computer controlled field measurements of load and loadeffect spectra in Sweden.
