LASER TREATMENT ON THE OUTER SURFACE OF CYLINDER LINER TO INCREASE THE CAVITATION-EROSION RESISTANCE EFFECTIVELY

Based on the research on cavitation-erosion of marine diesel engine 12V180, this paper presents the results of laser heat treatment on the outer surface of the cylinder liner. The metallographic grain structure of the liner surface became finer, the surface hardness and toughness increased after such treatment, consequently the ability to resist cavitation-erosion increased remarkably. The authors recommend the widespread application of the laser heat treatment technique to raise the service life of marine diesel engines.
