IMPROVEMENT IN MOORING SYSTEM OF A CAR CARRIER - LOW POINT MOORING SYSTEM
When a moored car car carrier is subjected to strong land winds, because the ship has a large exposed area and the loading area is flat, it may move away from the quay wall. To counteract this problem a ring like device is fixed at a low point on the bow and/or the stern, and the mooring ropes are moored to the bitts on a pier through the ring. Using this 'Low Point Mooring' system the ships mooring points are lowered so the left and right mooring forces are strengthened, improving the safety of the moored ship.
