PRELIMINARY RESEARCH ON THE HISTORICAL PERIOD AND RESTORATION DESIGN OF THE ANCIENT SHIP UNEARTHED IN PENG-LAI
In 1984, remnants of an ancient ship were unearthed at Peng-Lai, an ancient Chinese port. The ship was measured to be 28m long with a length to beam ratio of about 5. Its shape was quite different from any other ship excavated in China. It is believed to have been a naval patrol craft of the late Yuan or early Ming Dynasty (about 1274-1376). Structural characteristics are presented for discussion.
