AN EXPERT SYSTEM TO ASSIST IN THE TREATMENT OF DAMAGE IN OFFSHORE STRUCTURES
The load carrying capacity of an offshore platform can be altered after installation because of several factors, including damage inflicted on its components. After the occurrence of damage it is of fundamental importance to make a fast and efficient evaluation of its relevance regarding structural integrity and to define and provide for rapid repair if required. The paper describes an expert system aimed to help the engineer in the event of damage in offshore structures. The system is useful both in determining the causes and possible consequences of the damage as well as in modelling and selecting adequate repair alternatives.
