THE MANAGEMENT OF REFRIGERATED CARGO IN CONTAINERS - AN AUSTRALIAN EXPERIENCE
The need for Australia to succeed as a reliable source of perishable commodities to world markets is well recognised by the Australian National Line and its recently formed subsidiary company - Australian National Container Management Pty. Ltd. The latter through its activities in reefer servicing and container operations is supporting both the Australian exporters of perishables and the shipping companies to overcome problems. The paper addresses some of the operational inefficiencies and reefer design shortfalls that are contributing to poor temperature management in transit and relates these to trends in commodity developments. It introduces critical criteria in reefer designs and discusses development in onboard monitoring techniques.
