DITLEV LAURITZEN - WORLD'S LARGEST REEFER CAN BE RUN BY CREW OF SIX

The builders, Danyard A/S of Frederikshavn, Denmark, recently handed over the DITLEV LAURITZEN, the latest addition to the Lauritzen reefer fleet. A fully integrated ship control system, which makes extensive use of computers, allows navigation and the supervision of engine room, cargo and containers to be controlled by one man from the bridge. The use of this system enables the ship to be operated with a minimum crew of six, although in practice it is expected that a crew of nine will be used. General-arrangement drawings are given. Principal particulars are: propulsion MAN B and W GL60MC length overall 164.33 m length between perpendiculars 150.60 m breadth moulded 24.00 m depth moulded 15.70 m draught, summer 10.00 m tonnage, gross register 14,406 t tonnage, net 6.673 speed, service 19 knots container capacity 482 TEU crew 9
