CONSTRAINTS AFFECTING THE USE OF A PUBLIC TRANSSHIPMENT DEPOT
A group of 172 companies selected from the "Time Top 1000 Companies" were asked to complete a questionnaire concerning possible constraints on the use of a public transshipment depot. The group was not necessarily representative of the "Top 1000" but included manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers. The 93 completed questionnaires received have been analysed to help to improve understanding of the decisions of potential users. The study also indicates the very wide range of services that would need to be provided by a public transshipment depot, and argues that there should be increased liaison between local authorities and industry, in order to ensure practical solutions to the problems of HGVs in towns. /Author/
