TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT - ITS PHILOSOPHY, BEGINNINGS AND PROCESS AND ITS APPLICATION TO F-14 DEPOT MAINTENANCE

The paper discusses how the US Naval Aviation Depot, Norfolk, Virginia employed the new Japanese management philosophy of Total Quality Management (TQM) to reduce costs and boost productivity and efficiency. A specific application of TQM is highlighted with the preparation and implementation of the F-14 aircraft maintenance competition program. Outstanding productivity gains were achieved.
