AN UNIVERSAL CAI-SYSTEM FOR REAL-TIME SIMULATORS
In real-time simulators (e.g. flight-simulator, ship-bridge simulator, submarine simulator or tank trainer) the operators often have to learn very complex time-critical operations or procedures. A good solution to this problem is the application of real-time Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI). This paper describes a CAI system that is universally applicable for a broad category of real-time simulators. It is based upon a CAI-system which was developed some years ago for an AA-tank trainer and which is running very satisfactorily. The architecture of the real-time part, the Universal CAI Module (UCM), is ICAI (Intelligent Computer Assisted Instruction) based, in order to facilitate the use of Artificial Intelligence techniques.
