BUS PRIORITY SCHEMES

Data are presented in tabular form of all known bus priority schemes in England and Wales, including details of town, location, type of scheme (bus lanes, contra-flow, with flow, right and left turns, access to pedestrian areas, traffic signal priority, etc.), starting date review date, approximate length of lane, days of operation, hours of operation, permitted users, desirable extra conditions & comments. The range of permitted users varied widely to include contract, express, taxis, cycles, emergency vehicles etc. The main points of comment by the operators concerned the need for improving enforcement, particularly in bus-only lanes, and sometimes coupled with the need for a loading and unloading ban on goods vehicles. The geographical location of the schemes is shown on a map in Appendix B. /TRRL/
