An interview survey was carried out among a sample of the country's population. 84% consider that the authorities should not make it more difficult to own and use a car. This is a 9% rise in relation to 1971, and is most evident in big towns and rural areas. When asked whether the authorities should make it easier to own and use a car, about 50% answered yes, compared with 48% in 1971. /TRRL/
