QUALITY DOCUMENTATION OF CONCRETE STRENGTH
KVALITETSDOKUMENTATION AV BETONGHAALFASTHET
The method used in Sweden at present for characterising concrete quality - the k value, i.e. Nominal cube strength in kg/cm2 - was designed for site use and is not suited to industrial production. Strength requirements become more stringent as the volume of production rises. It is proposed that the k value be replaced by a k(0.10) value, a 10% fractile calculated for a relatively long uninterrupted period of production, e.g. six months. This would cater for both large and small volumes of production and take into account fluctuations in quality. Evaluation of quality at any time can be made, and substandard concrete rejected, by using the standard deviation as a measure of quality. /TRRL/
