PROGRESS IN THE WELDING OF HIGHER STRENGTH STEELS FOR OFFSHORE APPLICATIONS
Higher strength steels are currently beginning to be specified for the fabrication of modules for the topsides of offshore oil and gas platforms. The use of higher strength steels enables weight savings and consequent cost savings to be achieved. The metallurgy of these steels and the background to their use in this application is reviewed with emphasis on the logistic and design aspects.
