FATIGUE TESTS SIMULATING A NORTH SEA WAVE SPECTRUM
A narrow band spectrum for fatigue testing is proposed. It simulates the long term wave action history to inertia dominated structures in the North Sea. The proposed spectrum was implemented on different test systems in three Nordic laboratories and comparative crack growth tests were performed for a St 52.3 structural steel in air. The spectrum test results were reproducible and well comparable to the constant amplitude test results. The parametric presentation methods for spectrum fatigue test results are shortly discussed. The most realistic ways of presenting the results are based on Miner's rule and virtual fatigue damage.
