PASSENGER AND CAR FERRY FRIESLAND

The FRIESLAND was built by Van der Giessen-de Noord Shipbuilding Division B.V. at their Krimpen aan den Ijssel yard for the owners Rederij Doeksen, to whom she was transferred in February 1989. The new ship replaces an older, smaller ship of the same name. It has a capacity of 1750 passengers and 118 cars. Lorries can also be carried and the ship can act as a pure car carrier on short international routes. Passengers are required to put their luggage on large luggage trolleys before boarding and the time between voyages can be less than an hour. The length and weight of vehicles to be carried must be submitted in advance, so that vehicle loading can be planned by using some 60 different standard programmes prepared for different mixes of cars and lorries. Principal particulars are: length 68.97m oa, 65.10m waterline; breadth 16.62m oa, depth moulded to top deck 14.05m; displacement in seawater 1747t; deadweight 450t; trial speed (deep water) 14.1 knots.
