METEOROLOGY

This course is designed to assist the ship's officer in making maximum use of existing marine weather services. Experience at sea quickly teaches a cause-effect relationship between existing and future weather conditions. The elementary meteorology included in the course tries to explain the mechanics of this relationship and to develop methods to help anticipate future weather conditions. The material contained herein may be studied at sea, and will serve to increase the assignments, which are designed to be submitted monthly. Since it is realized that the problems of mailing may be a factor, one full year is permitted to complete all the required work. The course emphasizes a practical approach to meteorological study. A list of study material is included.
