EXPERIENCES WITH FLOATING BREAKWATERS: A LITERATURE REVIEW

The floating breakwater concept is an attractive solution for small craft harbours where a conventional rubble mound is not economically feasible. They must, however, be planned in due consideration of wave climate and other site specific conditions. This article, which is a result of a literature review, briefly presents alternative systems, shapes and materials, and their pros and cons. Some information on investment and maintenance cost has been collected. Finally a few problems, practical limitations and operational aspects are reported.
