VEM SHAFT GENERATORS ONBOARD TRAIN FERRIES "MUKRAN" CLASS

GDR shipyard VEB Mathias-Thesen-Werft, Wismar, is currently building a series of 6 train ferries. The first ferry was delivered in 1986 and the last one is going to be finished by 1990. These newbuildings are equipped with 2 variable pitch propellers and consequently 2 shaft lines. Each shaft line is driven by 2 diesel engines via a gear box. To each gear box a shaft generator is clutched. Each shaft generator has following data; 1,875/2,200kVA; 3 x 390V; 1,000 minE-1, 50Hz. The generators are described in detail in the following article.
