AN OPTIMISATION OF THE FINITE ELEMENTS METHOD AND ITS APPLICATION TO CERTAIN OCEAN ENGINEERING PROBLEMS
A finite element formulation which makes use of two independent and simultaneous optimisations, i) with respect to an exponential parameter, and ii) with respect to a multiplying constant C which multiplies part of the shape function, is applied in the present paper to two types of problems of ocean engineering interest: a vibrating ocean cable carrying concentrated masses and a portal frame vibrating in its plane.
