DIESEL-ELECTRIC VITUS BERING

A multipurpose icebreaker/transport/supply ship for the Arctic, the diesel-electric VITUS BERING, built at the Khersonsk yard, has entered service with the USSR Far East Fleet. This series replaces the old Amguema series. The VITUS BERING conforms to the USSR Register and to International Conventions. Her principal particulars are: length oa 159.8m; breadth, moulded 22.4m; depth, amidships 12m; draught, maximum 9m; displacement at 9m draught 20,200 tonnes; deadweight at 9m draught 10,690 tonnes; gross tonnage 13,514 reg. tonnes; speed 16.4 knots; propulsion 9.3 megawatts; cruising range 10,000 miles.
