UNMANNED MANOEUVRING OF A MODEL SHIP

A small plastic model boat, 73cm long and 1.8kg in weight, automatically runs parallel with a side wall of an experimental towing tank. It has two supersonic range-finders, and a pair of measured values are changed into mean distance and relative direction to the wall by an 8-bit microprocessor. The processor gives control signals of PD-type to a rudder servomotor using these values. The boat performed well when multistage reflections signals were filtered by digital processing
