PERMANENT MOORING SYSTEM FOR THE VEGA FIELD: DESIGN, FABRICATION, AND INSTALLATION
In mid 1987 a 250 000dwt converted tanker will be connected, through a rigid mooring yoke, to an articulated column which was installed during October 1986 in the VEGA field offshore from Sicily. The ARC-YOKE Mooring System is equipped to handle an estimated production of 60 000 barrels per day with a system allowing addition of diluent to the crude circulation in order to avoid clogging. The paper gives a complete description of the system and some details of the fabrication of the most noteworthy components, such as the large-size universal and triaxial joints. A large part of the paper is also devoted to the column installation, which resorted to original procedures in order not to require the need for underwater assistance.
