METHODS, TECHNIQUES, AND EQUIPMENT FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT
The Jastram-Oras oil recovery and separation process is described. In this, oil floating on the surface is concentrated by booms in front of an inlet opening in the recovery vessel. Here the oil-water mixture flows over a weir and into the receiver where a sliding gate is set at a suitable height to skim off the oil layer so that a minimum amount of water is carried over with the oil into the Jastram-Waas separation unit (which is also described), the bulk of the water being returned directly to the sea. Such a recovery and separation unit could be installed in a variety of pollution control vessels, and several installations are described.
