GREAT LAKES/SAINT LAWRENCE SEAWAY TRAFFIC FORECAST STUDY. MAIN REPORT
The objective of this study was the development of analytical aids and data bases for evaluation of alternative improvement programs for Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway. The contractor developed 60-year forecasts of Great Lakes- St. Lawrence Seaway traffic and conducted a survey of shipper and shipping interests perferences. He then developed a comprehensive route split computer model utilizing the information developed in the above. Forecasts indicate that Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway shares of potential traffic are relatively low in many instances. Opportunities exist for significant tonnage increase. Further model 'tuning' is planned by Army Corps of Engineers subsequent to the development of a comprehensive logistics price file.
