RESISTANCE PREDICTIONS AND PARAMETRIC STUDIES FOR HIGH-SPEED DISPLACEMENT HULLS

Feasibility designs of such vessels as corvettes and patrol boats require calm water resistance estimates. A few high-speed round-bilge methodical series are available for powering estimates of this type of vessel, together with some numerical formulae from regression analyses. However owing to some distinctive resistance characteristics at Froude numbers larger or smaller than 0.45-0.55 care must be taken to match the main hull parameters to the required speed range when attempting to design a good high-speed hull on the basis of these methodical series. These factors, as well as other hull form parameters that may affect resistance, are discussed.
