EXPERIENCE GAINED IN THE PROCESSING OF OFFSHORE STEEL

The manufacture, chemical composition and mechanical properties of an offshore steel with a yield strength of about 355 N/sq mm are discussed together with the processing of this material. Thermal cutting and behaviour during welding (hardness curve of the weld zone, cold-cracking behaviour of welds, influence of welding conditions on the toughness in the heat-affected zone, and fracture behaviour of weld joints) are described.
