EXHAUST CHARACTERISTICS OF SOOTS FROM TURBULENT SWIRLING FLAME

In the normal type of furnace burner fuel and air are fed separately and combustion occurs primarily within a spatially limited zone. Turbulent mixing rate in such a system has important effects on the emission of pollutants such as unburned hydrocarbons and soot. This paper describes an investigation into the control of soot emission by varying the swirling intensities of combustion air flow.
