HEAD-UP DISPLAY APPARATUS
This invention relates to head-up display apparatus such as can be used to provide the pilot of an aircraft or the driver of a motor vehicle with a display of information which he can consult without diverting his line of sight from the scene ahead. Both types of apparatus are fully described. For the motor vehicle the apparatus comprises a curved windscreen for the vehicle, a speedometer having numeric characters for indicating the speed of the vehicle, means for illuminating at least that numeric character corresponding to the speed of the vehicle at any particular instant, a concave mirror, and a diverging lens arranged to project the illuminated character onto the concave mirror; the curved windscreen is operative to receive the image of the character reflected from the concave mirror and to reflect the image towards the driver of the vehicle, the optical arrangement being such that the image of the character appears to the driver to be at a finite distance. /TRRL/
